Codat launched in 2017 and they are a data integration platform that helps financial institutions and fintechs seamlessly exchange data with their small business customers. Their initial focus was enabling small businesses to benefit and thrive, but over time they have built-in access to commerce and banking data via direct in-house developed integrations with platforms like Square and through partnerships with companies like Plaid. As a founder, generic responses of why your VC declined to invest may be easier to take but they rob you of important learning opportunities, especially when you’ve put in the time to pitch. As an investor, dishing out candid feedback on why you chose not to invest in a startup can be uncomfortable. Therefore, founders who are pursuing conversations with an investor should be consistently opening the floor for feedback at every stage of the fundraising process — be it after the first call or investment committee.
