U.S. rapper Nasir Jones (better known by his stage name, Nas) is among the fortunate few to have made early investments in Coinbase, the cryptocurrency exchange expected to reach over $100 billion in valuation when its COIN stock lists on Wednesday. Link here.
Swedish payment firm Trustly has confirmed plans for an IPO that could value the company at up to €9 billion. Chief executive Oscar Berglund says the company will sell shares worth €785 million, part of which will be used to redeem preference shares and repay debt. Link here.
Mastercard has teamed up with Swedish fintech Doconomy to develop a carbon calculator that banks can integrate into their apps to give customers a snapshot of the emissions generated by their purchases across spending categories. Link here.
Paynote, a Netherlands-based start-up, launched its personal financial management (PFM) app in beta at the end of last month. Available on iOS, Android, and KaiOS – the mobile operating system for phones with limited memory – the app is currently free. Link here.
Sydney-based FinTech Cape has secured a grant from the government in New South Wales to help it bolster growth plans. Cape has been awarded the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) grant worth A$25,000 and was given to the FinTech as a result of its unique cash management product. Link here.
Freetrade, the investment platform that is on a mission to get everyone investing, announces the appointment of a senior team of executive and non-executive leaders to guide the company on its European expansion. Link here.
Colombia Fintech shares what 2020 was like for some of their members during a year of financial digitization for the country. According to a study by EY-Parthenon "Covid-19 Financial Sector Perspective", 2020 was a challenging year for digital banking in Colombia. Link here.
